CW Shooting should be a cake walk for Indians: Sunny Thomas
15 February 2010. National shooting coach Sunny Thomas doesn’t foresee upcoming Commonwealth Shooting Championships to be held in the Capital from February 17, as the real test for the Indian team.
In his opinion the ‘real test’ will be the Commonwealth games beginning first week of October on the home soil. During the games in October, says Thomas, countries will field their best best. "All the participating nations will be in full strength. It will be the real challenge to surpass the previous record of 27 medals won in Melbourne edition," said the national coach.

In fact, Indian shooters had dominated the previous edition of the Commonwealth championships too, winning as many as 24 medals. And, the upcoming meet, feels the national coach, shouldn’t pose a big challenge.
"It should be a cake walk for the Indian shooters," he said.
When asked which are the nations that can pose challenge to the home team, Thomas said, he is yet to go through the details of shooters profile. But considered Australia and England to have crack shots in its fold. "The above two teams should have good shooters in squad," added Thomas.
Talking of the Indian team strength, he said, the preparation had been satisfactory. "There were teething problems, but overall it was okay," he said.
Regarding the Indian team, world record holder Gagan Narang is in the team and going by his current form, he should be the one to watch out for. Ace pistol shooter Samaresh Jung is also among the squad.
For the Commonwealth games in October, Thomas said that National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) will again select a National squad. "It will all depend on who all attain good scores in the selection trials," said the national coach. indianshooting.com
