The iconic Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, located near the historic Tughlakabad Fort in Delhi, is poised for a major technological upgrade as part of a comprehensive modernization initiative by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), according to an announcement on their official website.

Originally developed for the 1982 Asian Games and extensively revamped ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the facility has grown into one of India’s premier shooting venues. It currently functions as a National Centre of Excellence (NCOE), training over 160 athletes and hosting regular national coaching camps and international competitions. The range is also preparing to host the ISSF Junior World Cup 2025, further cementing its global stature.

To support high-performance training and elite events, the range was equipped with 245 SIUS Ascor electronic target systems and six Laporte shotgun trap machines during its last major upgrade in 2009–10. These systems have served reliably for over 15 years, supporting numerous national and international competitions.

In a move to align with current global standards and technological advancements in shooting sports, the existing systems will now be decommissioned and replaced with next-generation equipment. The outgoing SIUS and Laporte units, having fulfilled their operational life, are scheduled to be auctioned in accordance with applicable government norms and procedures.

The upcoming upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the range’s training and competition infrastructure, reaffirming Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range’s position as a world-class facility and a vital hub for developing India’s next generation of shooting champions.
