The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) has announced that all shooting events will have the same numbers of shots for men and women.

The ISSF Administrative Council on Monday approved the changes in rules that will come into effect on 1st January 2018.

As per the new rules, there is an increase in the number of shots in women events.

The changes are in line with the International Olympic Committee’s 2020 goal to bring about gender equality in sports.

The new rules for women from 1st January 2018:

Women 10m Air Rifle and Air Pistol increase from 40 shots to 60 shots.
Women 50m Rifle Three Positions increase from 3×20 (60) shots to 3×40 (120) shots.
Women Trap and Skeet events increase from 75 targets to 125 targets.
Women Running Target event increase from 40 shots to 60 shots.
    Women’s 25m Pistol will continue as a 60 shot match (30+30 shots).

These changes will be in effect at all 2018 ISSF Championships including World Cups, Junior World Cups, Continental Championships and the World Championship in Changwon, Korea.
