After shooting 25, 24 and 25 in the qualification phase — four points more than Sarah Alhawal of Kuwait, who competed as an independent shooter, and Ray Bassil of Lebanon, Seema continued her good form to top the semifinals with 14 out 15. She was two points clear of Sarah.

However, in the gold medal match, Sarah pipped Seema 13 to 11.

Speaking to indianshooting.com, Seema said, “I am very happy with my qualification score of 74. I also did well in the semifinal but I feel I should have done a bit better in the gold medal match”.

Ranked 24 in the world, Seema improved her personal best score with two points. Her previous best was 72 which she had shot at the Asian Shotgun Championship at Al Ain in 2014 where she had won the gold.

Seema, a World Cup silver medallist, also helped the team to the gold medal, with Rajeshwari Kumari (68) and Shreyasi Singh (64), three points ahead of the Kuwaitis. Qatar took the bronze.

Rajeshwari also made the knock-out but lost the bronze medal 10-12 to Ray Bassil.
