Arnisha Chowdhury of hosts North Calcutta Rifle Club and Abhinav Shaw from Asansol Rifle Club stole the show at the 51st West Bengal State Shooting Championship that concluded on Sunday.
Mehuli Ghosh, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, was one of the star attractions of the state meet. However, the teen sensation from Joydeep Karmakar Shooting Academy (JKSA), had to be content with the silver medal as Arnisha won gold in all three categories — senior, junior and youth women’s 10m air rifle.
Mehuli, however, retained her title in the 10m air rifle mixed event, pairing up with fellow JKSA trainee, Tanoy Dey.
10-year-old Abhinav, who also trains at JKSA, claimed a double gold in the men’s and youth men’s 10m air rifle event. In the youth category, in fact, he created a meet record with a score of 395.
Soumodip Das of Serampore Rifle Club, however, pipped Abhinav to gold in the junior men’s category with a record-breaking score of 396.
Hosts North Calcutta Rifle Club were crowned overall champions while JKSA finished runners up.
