    International shooter Khushseerat Kaur Sandhu allegedly shot herself with her licensed .22 pistol in her home in Faridkot, Punjab.

    The 17-year-old Khushseerat has won multiple national medals and had participated in the 25m Pistol events at this year’s ISSF Junior World Championship held in Lima, Peru.

    Khushseerat shot herself with her .22 pistol and died of a headshot wound. According to the family, the promising youngster was very unhappy with her performance in the recently concluded 64th National Shooting Championship (Pistol) in New Delhi.

    The family discovered her body on Thursday morning and immediately informed the police. Police said no suicide note was recovered from the spot and prima facie no foul play is suspected. The preliminary investigation reveals that Sandhu was battling depression over her recent sports performance. The matter is being investigated from all angles.

    Khushseerat had started her sports career as a swimmer and won medals at the national level, she took up shooting four years ago. In 2019, Sandhu won a total of 11 medals in various pistol events. Apart from winning the gold in Junior Women’s 25m Pistol, Sandhu had also bagged gold in Sub-Youth Women’s 10m Air Pistol. She also finished a credible fifth in the Women’s 25m Pistol, where Tokyo Olympian Manu Bhaker won the title.
