Former World Champion Manavjit Sandhu and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Mohammad Asab will be representing India at the prestigious ISSF Shotgun World Cup Final to be held in Nicosia, Cyprus, from October 15 to 21.

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) selected the two shotgun aces to represent India at the World Cup Final after taking into account their performances at this year’s four World Cups held in Acapulco (Mexico), Al Ain (UAE), Larnaca (Cyprus) and Gabala (Azerbaijan).

A total of 60 athletes, representing 28 countries, will compete in five Olympic events of the Shotgun discipline – Men’s Trap, Women’s Trap, Men’s Skeet, Women’s Skeet and Men’s Double Trap.

The competition is quite significant for the two shooters as it’s happening just two weeks before the 13th Asian Shooting Championship in Kuwait, which will be the last chance for the Indians to win Olympic quotas. Both Sandhu and Asab are yet to qualify for the Olympics.

Although Asab could not win a medal at this year’s ISSF World Cup stages, but the 26-year-old reached the finals on two occasions. Based on this performance, the ISSF selected him for the World Cup Final. Similarly, Sandhu was chosen on the basis of his bronze medal-winning performance at the World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico.

Manavjit will compete in Men’s Trap while Asab will be seen in action in the Men’s Double Trap.
