The 14 day national camp at the Vattiyoorkavu shooting range in Kerala has run into rough weather as a majority of the shooters were affected by food poisoning on Wednesday night.

Fifty six shooters, 10 national coaches, two foreign coaches and two physios are staying at the Udaya Samudra hotel in Kovalam. Sources said that at least a dozen shooters were taken to hospital for treatment.

“They were given preliminary treatment and discharged,” said former national shooting coach Sunny Thomas — coordinating the current camp.

“None of them were hospitalised. The problem may have been caused by bottled water or some food. In fact, they were not used to the kind of South Indian dishes that they get here. They were also not used to the humid climate prevailing here. However, all the shooters came for practice right from the next day and everything is going well now,” Thomas said.

Hotel authorities have sent the food samples to the lab for investigation. Fifty-six shooters, aided by 12 coaches including two overseas coaches, and two physios, are attending the 14-day camp.
