    National Trials: Ravi Kumar takes top spot in Air Rifle

    Ravi Kumar of Air Force took the top spot in the men’s 10m air rifle in the National Shooting Selection Trials being held at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi.

    Ravi, who had won the Asian Games mixed team bronze with Apurvi Chandela, shot 251.6 to win the final.

    Ravi started the final with a 9.9 but was bang on target with a chain of 23 tens in the 24-shots final. He took a lead after the first competition stage of 10 shots and shot consistently well till the very end.

    Earlier, Ravi had shot the second best qualification score of 628.0.

    However, it was 15-year-old Yash Vardhan of Rajasthan who impressed as he topped the qualification in men’s 10m air rifle with a score of 629.2 and went on to finish in the top three in all the three sections men’s, junior and youth.

    Yash shot 251.1 to miss the top spot by of 0.5 point in the men’s final. Sandeep Singh took the third place.

    In the junior section, World junior champion Hriday Hazarika (252.2) and Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar (250.3) pushed Yash Vardhan to the third place. The promising shooter, however, topped the youth event with a commendable 252.4. The second spot was claimed by Dhanush Srikanth while Srijay finished third.

    The Results:

    Men’s 10m Air Rifle: 1. Ravi Kumar 251.6 (628.0); 2. Yash Vardhan Singh 251.1 (629.2); 3. Sandeep Singh 227.9 (627.4).

    Junior Men’s 10m Air Rifle: 1. Hriday Hazarika 252.2 (626.1); 2. Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar 250.3 (625.3); 3. Yash Vardhan 228.4 (629.2).

    Youth Men’s 10m Air Rifle: 1. Yash Vardhan 252.4 (629.2); 2. Dhanush Srikanth 252.3 (623.7); 3. TR Srijay 229 (625.1).
