The Supreme court today stayed the Delhi high court judgement which had put air rifle and air pistol under the Arms Act.
Earlier on 20th May 2011, the Delhi high court had quashed a July 13th, 1962 government notification that had exempted air rifle and air pistol from all the regulations and controls under the Arms Act , 1959, including the requirement of a valid license.
Today’s stay order brings a great relief to all the shooters and particularly to those whose, shooting equipment is lying at the airports for custom clerance.
The shooting fraternity welcomed the decison of the Supreme court which will help the sport to grow further.
