Naresh Sharma finished second last among 22 shooters in the Men’s R1-10m Air Rifle Standing – SH1 event at Rio Paralympics on Thursday.
The veteran shooter who has participated in multiple Paralympics, did not look in his usual form and could only manage a score of 583.0.
In the first three qualification series, Sharma registered low scores of 98.1, 95.6 and 99.2. The 44-year-old came back well to shoot 103.3 in the fourth series but that did not help him to improve his rank.
The only shooter who finished lower than Naresh was Owen Burke of Great Britain who did not complete his full match.
The gold in today’s event was won by China’s Dong Chao Dong, silver was won by AS Alaryani of UAE while Kim Suwan of Korea took the bronze.
South Korea’s Park Jin Ho who shot the highest score of 625.3 in the qualification finished 6th.
This is Sharma’s fifth Paralympic participation. He has featured in every edition of the Games since 1996, missing out only in Athens 2004.
