After China’s domination in the 10m air rifle events, Shahzar Rizvi and Jitu Rai made it a one-two for India in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol at the 9th Asian Airgun Championship at Tehran on Wednesday.
23-year-old Rizvi shot 199.9 beat the much accomplished Jitu Rai by a clear margin of 2.4 points for the gold.
Shahzar of the Indian Air Force (IAF) who had won gold in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol at 59th National Shooting Championship in New Delhi, topped the qualification with a total of 580, three points better than the next best.
The Indian trio of Shahzar, Jitu and Om Prakash Mitharval won the team gold for India, eight points ahead of the Chinese.
In the junior category, Saurabh Chaudhary won the silver after shooting 195.8 (572) while Anmol shot 199.0 (574) to win gold in the youth category.
The Indian junior team of Saurabh, Gurmeet and Hemendra Kushwah won the gold with a score of 1709.
Even though Surinder Singh shot 560 to qualify for the finals along with Anmol, the Indian youth team could not win a medal as the third member of the team Gaurav Rana “did not start”.
