    Shardul Vihan stole the limelight as he won four gold medals at the 61st National Shotgun Championship at New Delhi.

    The 14-year-old Shardul of Uttar Pradesh won gold in the senior and junior men’s double trap individual and team events to completely dominate the day at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.

    Shardul beat the World No. 1 Ankur Mittal 78-76 for the men’s gold.

    Shardul had finished a creditable 6th at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Moscow this year.

    Mohd. Asab of Uttar Pradesh won the bronze with 56 hits.

    Earlier in the qualifications, all the three medallists in the men’s category had shot a score of 137.

    In the junior category, Shardul won 77-74 against another promising youngster Shapath Bharadwaj of Uttarakhand. Sehajpreet Singh of Punjab shot 55 to win the bronze.

    Here too, Shardul had tied for the top spot with an identical score of 137, but unlike in the seniors where he had to undergo a four-way shoot-off to determine the top spot, he had only teammate Ahvar Rizvi to beat and won 7-5.

    In the men’s team, Shardul, Ahvar and Md. Asab shot a total score of 411 to win the gold for Uttar Pradesh.

    In the Junior team category, Shardul and Ahvar partnered with Azghar Hussain Khan and registered a total of 392 to win gold with a huge margin of 40 points.
