Shivam Shukla and Rituraj Singh made it a one-two for India in the 25m Standard Pistol on the first day of the ISSF Junior Cup in Suhl, Germany. 18-year-old Shivam shot 560 to finish ahead of compatriot Rituraj Singh by a point and claimed the gold.
Rituraj was tied for the second place with Italy’s Dario Di Martino. In the shoot-off, Di Martino lost by 46:40 and settled for the bronze. This made 19-year-old Rituraj, the first international medalist from Assam in shooting.
India also won Gold in the team event. Achal Pratap Grewal (552) joined the efforts of his teammates Shukla and Singh to register a total score of 1671. Well over 30 points behind India, came France with 1635 while bronze was won by by Russia with 1631.
Moreover, the junior men’s double trap team consisting of Priyanshu Pandey, Jaisal Singh and Ahvar Rizvi won bronze with a total score of 382 to finish behind Russia (400) and the USA (394).
Priyanshu also reached the finals of the individual event, but could finish sixth.
The Junior Women’s 10m Air Pistol team comprising Yashaswini Singh Deswal, Shreya Gawande and Gauri Sheoran won silver with a total score of 1135. They narrowly missed the gold by virtue of lesser number of inner 10s to Russia, who finished on top with the same combined team total.
In the Junior Men’s 10m Air Pistol team event, the Indian trio of Achal Pratap Grewal, Arjun Das and Anmol shot a combined total of 1702 in the finals to settle for bronze. Russia won the gold with 1730 points, while Italy bagged the silver with 1706 points.
Achal also reached the finals of the individual event, where he managed a 5th place finish.
