Commonwealth Games gold medallist Shreyasi Singh on Tuesday made a successful election debut on a BJP ticket, winning the Jamui assembly seat from sitting RJD MLA Vijay Prakash, Election Commission sources said.
The 29-year-old Shreyasi defeated Prakash by a staggering margin of more than 41,000 votes, the sources said. She polled 79,156 votes, while Prakash, who has represented the seat more than once, bagged only 38,147.

Shreyasi had won gold medal in the women’s double trap at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. In 2014, she won a silver in the same event at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and followed it with a bronze at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. In 2018, Shreyasi was honoured with the Arjuna Award.
Shreyasi’s father Digvijay Singh, a former union minister, and grandfather Kumar Surendra Singh, both served as presidents of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
