Promising youngster Swapnil Kusale beat top shots Chain Singh and Gagan Narang to win the gold in Men’s 50m Rifle Prone at the 59th National Shooting Championship being held in New Delhi.
The 20-year-old Swapnil with a qualification score of 623.8 also won the gold in the junior category ahead of Ishan Goel and Akhil Sheoran.
In the finals, Swapnil shot well to snatch the lead from Chain Singh who was leading till the 16th shot in the finals. Chain finally settled for the silver.
Gagan Narang won the bronze with a score of 184.2. In the qualification, Narang shot 627.2 just 0.6 points less than his personal best of 627.8 which he shot at the ISSF World Cup in Fort Benning last year.
Defending champion Hariom Singh settled for the fourth place while Joydeep Karmakar who had placed fourth in the 2012 London Olympics finished 12th with a score of 618.8.
