    Varsha Varman crowned National Champion in Women’s Trap

    Varsha Varman of Madhya Pradesh won the gold medal in women’s trap at the 62nd National Shotgun Championship in Jaipur.

    The 24-year old Varsha, who qualified for the final in second place with 114, shot 38 in the final to claim the title. The silver was won by Delhi’s Soumya Gupta who ended with 37 hits while defending champion Shagun Chowdhary of ONGC took the bronze with 30.

    It was a second silver for Soumya who had won the mixed team silver with Fahad Sultan.

    Earlier this year, Varsha had missed a medal by one point in double trap at the Commonwealth Games and finished 7th at the Asian Games. The Harvard graduate had won the team bronze at the 2014 Asian Games.

    World Cup silver medallist Seema Tomar shot 107 to finish 10th while Commonwealth Games double trap champion Shreyasi Singh was placed 11th with 105.

    In the junior category, Soumya won the gold with 38 while another Delhi shooter Aadya Tripathi won the silver with 37. Manisha Keer of Madhya Pradesh, who shot the best qualification score of 116, took the bronze with 29.

    Junior Women’s Trap: 1. Soumya Gupta (Delhi) 38 (113); 2. Aadya Tripathi (Delhi) 37 (110); 3. Manisha Keer (Madhya Pradesh) 29 (116).
