    India starts with a bang as Sainyam, Shubham Bisla strike Gold at Junior World Championship

    Sainyam and Shubham Bisla gave Team India a great start to the ISSF Junior World Championship in Changwon, Korea, by winning both the gold medals on offer in the women’s and men 10m air pistol events.

    Shubham shot a score of 244.6 to beat qualification topper Bu Shuaihang of China by a five-point margin in the final. Korea Kim Kanghyun (218.2) took the bronze.

    Earlier in the qualification, Shubham shot the second best 578 behind Bu, who topped the qualification with 585. The other Indians in the event, Amit Sharma (576) and Sagar Bhargava (575) also made the cut for the final but finished fifth and fourth respectively.

    In the women’s event, Sainyam shot 242.2 to beat Oh Ye Jin of Korea by 2.6 points for the gold. The Korean had shot world record 587 in qualification, but Sainyam who had a modest 576 in qualification was strong in the final right through. The bronze was won by Yao Qianxun of China with 218.6.

    Another Indian Urva Chaudhary narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth after shooting the same qualification score as Sainyam but with lesser inner 10s.

    India was on top of the medals table with two gold, while China and Korea followed with a silver and bronze each.
