Shooting legend and national coach Jaspal Rana was hospitalized in Delhi after experiencing chest pain and discomfort during the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany, and again on his return flight to India, prompting immediate medical intervention upon landing.

“He (Jaspal) experienced chest pain and discomfort during the ISSF World Cup in Munich, which he initially mistook for acidity, and continued with his travel plans. However, the discomfort returned during the journey back to India, prompting immediate medical attention upon his arrival in Delhi,” said his brother, Subash Rana.

Upon landing, Rana was taken directly to Max Super Speciality Hospital, where doctors conducted further examinations and performed a procedure to place a stent to address a cardiac blockage. A second stent procedure is expected to be carried out in the coming days as part of his treatment plan.

Hospital authorities have reportedly kept Rana under close medical supervision, and visitors are currently not being allowed as a precaution. He is understood to be stable and recovering well.

One of the most decorated shooters in Indian history, Rana has been a towering figure in the sport both as a champion athlete and as a coach. A multiple-time international medallist, he has played a crucial role in shaping India’s modern shooting success.

In recent years, Rana has been widely credited for his work with Manu Bhaker, helping guide her resurgence on the international stage. As coach of the Indian pistol team, he was instrumental in the preparations that led to Bhaker’s historic success at the Paris Olympics, where she became the first Indian athlete to win two medals at a single edition of the Games.

News of his hospitalization has prompted an outpouring of support from athletes, coaches, and fans across the country, with the shooting fraternity united in wishing him a speedy and complete recovery.
