    Jitu Rai breaks CWG record to win gold, Om Prakash Mitharval clinches bronze in men’s air pistol

    Ace pistol shooter Jitu Rai won gold in Men 10m Air Pistol setting a CWG record while compatriot Om Prakash Mitharval won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

    Jitu, a CWG gold medalist in 50m Pistol four years ago in Glasgow, shot 235.1 in the finals to set a CWG record.

    Mitharval, who qualified for the finals equaling the CWG qualification record of 584 set by Samaresh Jung in 2006, shot 214.3 to win bronze.

    The silver was won by Australia Kerry Bell with 233.5.

    In the finals, Jitu led with 100.4 after the first 10 shots, while Mitharval was third with 98.1. Jitu maintained the lead throughout to claim the gold with ease while Mitharval moved up to 2nd place after the 12th shot and maintained his position till the 20th shot. He later slipped and settled for the bronze.

    However, Jitu was not impressive in the qualification as he shot a below par 570 to finish 4th best.
