India teen shooting sensation Manu Bhaker came up with a stellar show to win gold medal in Women 10m Air Pistol by shattering the CWG record while Heena Sidhu staged a stirring comeback to win silver at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
The 16-year-old Manu shot 240.9 to finish 6.9 points ahead of her senior teammate Heena, who aggregated 234.0.
Manu was the hot favourite to win the event, having bagged multiple gold medals at last month’s ISSF World Cup in Mexico and the subsequent Junior World Cup in Sydney.
Earlier in the qualification, Manu topped with a CWG qualification  record of 388 while Heena was the second best with 379.
Manu was even more impressive in the finals as she completely dominated the field with some high scoring 10s which included a perfect 10.9 on her 20th shot.
While Manu was comfortably leading in the finals, Heena had a shaky start and slipped to the 6th position. Heena however made a strong recovery with a few 10 plus scores towards the end of the finals to claim the silver. The former World No. 1 had also won a silver at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010.
Australia’s Elena Galiabovitch took the bronze with 214.9 to bring some cheer for the hosts.
The Results:
Women’s 10m Air Pistol: 1. Manu Bhaker (India) 240.9 GR (388 QGR); 2. Heena Sidhu (India) 234.0 (379); 3. Elena Galiabovitch (Australia) 214.9 (376).
