Vijayveer Sidhu of India won the silver medal, missing the gold in a shoot-off to Peeter Olesk of Estonia, in Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in New Delhi.

With 26 hits each, both Vijayveer and Peeter were tied for the top spot at the end of the 40-shot final. In the shoot-off, after having shot brilliantly to score 4 out of 5 hits in the eighth and final series, Vijayveer managed just one. Under no pressure, Olesk got 4 hits to win the top prize after a consistent showing through the finals.

It was a brave effort by Vijayveer, after Olympian Gurpreet Singh and Anish Bhanwala had slipped out in the 5th and 6th place. Anish was kept in the team against the selection norms as he had a chance of winning the Olympic quota on the basis of world rank.

Oskar Miliwek of Poland bagged the bronze with 20.

In the qualification, Vijayveer had made the cut after managing to grab the 6th slot with 579. Olympian Gurpreet was the best-placed Indian at third place with a total of 581 while Anish was in 5th place with 579.

Marko Carrillo of Peru shot the best qualification score of 582.

    The Results:

    Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol: 1. Peeter Olesk (Est) 26(4) 582; 2. Vijayveer Sidhu 26(1) 579; 3. Oskar Miliwek (Pol) 20 (580); 5. Anish Bhanwala 579 (13); 6. Gurpreet Singh 9 (581). MQS: Adarsh Singh 569.
